Objective: Podcast branding for “It Starts with Why? With Henry V,” where they explore a guest's purpose, what drives them, and the benefits of pursuing what you’re passionate about. The visual identity should communicate both warmth and wisdom—inviting, yet confident. It should reassure listeners they’re in a space of thoughtful discovery.

Henry emphasized his attraction to retro and nostalgic designs that use heavy type. In order to attract a broader audience, Henry requested his queer identity to come through in the branding without making it seem only focused on queer themes.

Deliverables: Two conceptual directions presented through mood boards. Chosen direction expanded on through abbreviated brand guide including color palette, type styles and podcast cover.
Retro Purpose
Moodboard 1 (chosen direction)

Use the rainbow in a subtle, minimal way — like thin lines or accents around the design

Queer identity is present but not overt

    Leans sleek, editorial, and purpose-driven

Modern Signal
Moodboard 2

Reference the rainbow in a more nostalgic, design-forward way — woven into stripes, curves, or vintage patterns

Queer identity is expressed with warmth and subtle nods, not loud symbols

Evokes a retro, analog feel that’s personal and approachable
